The London Loaf: Baths

Baths are a good way to slow down, because it’s difficult – but not impossible – to take a quick bath. For a start you have to run it, and if you have temperamental taps, you have to monitor the water flow or else it has a tendency to turn cold as soon as you leave the room.

Alternatively you might hit the hotspot and it will come out scalding, then you have to add cold, but not too much, or you’re back to square one. Some baths are more attention-seeking than others, which is where it pays to have an old-fangled contraption rather than a deluxe modern convenience. Incidentally I am continually surprised by how long it takes for the cold water to mingle with the hot water. Wish I could go back to school and pay attention in physics classes.
