2009 Festival: National Portrait Gallery lunchtime lecture – The Capable Mr Brown

Take a deep breath of fresh, country air as Russell Bowes invites you to explore the life and works of England’s most famous gardener – Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

Thursday 30th April 2009

As well as looking at Brown’s work, Russell looks at the man behind the gardens, discusses who Brown was and who his patrons and friends were, as well as detailing cultural, social and political changes in England which inspired a move away from the detailed, fussy gardens of the seventeenth century to rolling parkland and open space. Free on a first come, first served basis. (NB: places limted to 150) For more information please visit www.npg.org.uk
