2009 Festival: Tai Chi Workshop
It is possible to do tai chi quickly but it is not easy to ‘really’ do tai chi quickly : only if we are totally relaxed, at ease, centred, self-aware … and that’s why most of us need to take time to practice.
Through tai chi practice we learn to listen and relax and stay centred in the midst of change. We learn to listen to ourselves, our bodies, the changes within the movements, to be able to relax whilst maintaining a structure that is balanced and centred as well as listen to our environment, to other people and be able to respond effectively with equanimity and relaxation.
Benefits can be realised through a single tai chi session. To realise deeper change takes time and tai chi can be a lifelong art through which deeper, more relaxed, less frenetic ways of being and doing can be realised.
John Linney (Prasannavira) is an instructor in the Huang Sheng-Shyan tradition of Yang style Taiji with the Taijiquan School of Central Equilibrium. He is registered as an Advanced Instructor with the Tai Chi Union For Great Britain.
John holds tai chi classes at Bodywise on Monday evenings (7.35pm-9.05pm) and Saturday mornings (9am-10am).
Come to a special ‘Slow Down London’ drop-in tai chi class on Saturday 25th April 2009 to have a taster of this relaxing art form. All are welcome (although space is limited so don’t arrive too late!).
