The London Loaf: Markets

Markets are good places to get specific about what you eat and support local independent farmers and businesses in the process. Borough Market and on a smaller scale the Kennington Farmers’ Market are my two local favourites.

You can wander round tasting unusual organic delicacies and end up purchasing some expensive bread/olives/flaxseed oil which you can’t really afford but tastes amazing and undoubtedly does wonderful things for your insides.  Supermarkets promise the comfort of convenience and speed but often compromise on satisfaction and human contact. It feels good to enter into a conversation with a man on a stall who reared a goat to produce the cheese you are buying and know that you are contributing to his livelihood as opposed to some big conglomerate.
