Slow Down London: event programme
Over thirty partner organisations are helping us to offer an inspiring programme of events for the Slow Down London festival taking place 24 April to 4 May 2009.
You can view the full event programme here. (may not be suitable for Safari browsers- please visit Events section instead).
Walking is one of the best ways to slow down, and we’re happy to have several major walking organisations as partners, including The Ramblers, Living Streets and Walk London. The Ramblers (and their London group Metropolitan Walkers) have organised a special series of Slow Down London walks, where Londoners can explore some of the hidden green parts of their city.
Floella Benjamin, President of the Ramblers Association, says:
‘Walking is the perfect antidote to the frenetic fast-food approach to modern life. It makes you slow down and really connect with your environment, meet more people and understand how lovely London is. The city is full of hidden gems that you miss rushing around in a car. Walking is healthy, green, free and everyone can do it. We’re delighted to be partners of Slow Down London and encourage people to delight in their surroundings and daily lives.’
Other slow activities include the chance to grow your own credit crunch salad in Urban Gardening; meander through the four day Slow Food Market at Southbank Centre; try tai chi, yoga or meditation; or dabble in pavement art. Take time to reflect on the meaning of ‘slowing down’ in some of our discussion events, such as Slow as a State of Mind with Carl Honore, Slow Travel with Harry Eyres and Ed Gillespie, and Making Time with David Rooney.
