If you walk around London at the moment, you’ll see phone booths advertising smart debit card readers with the promise that they’ll shorten the time you spent queuing for coffee. This week I’ve been forced to slow down. I thought I was doing well in the run up to Christmas – pacing myself with a mix of social activities, work and studies – and getting ready for a long holiday from New Year. Then bang. I had fever, a sore throat and ached everywhere. I attempted to keep going but soon I was unable to move or act. (more…)


Take a Breath

In a busy lunchtime queue at EAT in Notting Hill I overheard a manager say to a frazzled worker, ‘Slow down, take a breath’. It was said with a smile, and had the desired effect. The worker grinned and visibly relaxed for a moment by the cappuccino machine.
