Based in the heart of Deptford, the Albany is a performing arts centre with a history stretching back to the nineteenth century. Over the last few years, it has emerged as a new type of arts venue, very much driven by the cultural diversity and creative mix of South East London. For Slow Down London the Albany will be hosting a theatre workshop exploring themes of speed, communication and ‘slowing down’ in our daily lives and our relationships with others.
Pond Conservation encourage you to slow down and get involved in your garden pond. Garden ponds are full of life and you can while away the hours looking at your water beetles, watching dragonflies and looking at frogs. The best thing about wildlife ponds is that you don’t have to do any work – just sit back and watch the wildlife come to you. Visit our website for advice on creating and making the best of your garden pond for wildlife or to tell us all about your garden pond.
Speed is the enemy of spiritual growth. It keeps us from noticing the beauty around us and the miracle that is life. UKspirituality is happy to be part of Slow Down London as we all encourage one another to pause and notice the wonder of living.
Hand crafted processes can take time, but produce exquisite results – so we are delighted to be part of Slow Down London! Beautifully made work is celebrated at Cockpit Arts – a charity and the UK’s only creative-business incubator for designer-makers. A renowned hotbed of creative talent, we help 165 resident designer-makers to grow their businesses and hundreds more through a dedicated professional development programme. This year Cockpit Arts is launching Maker Difference, a campaign to support and promote designer-makers and their work.

Where better to slow down than in one of London’s many unique patches of urban wilderness? London Wildlife Trust is the only charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital’s wildlife and wild spaces, engaging London’s diverse communities through access to our nature reserves, campaigning, volunteering and education. We want to help Londoners get closer to nature – find out about free wildlife events during the Slow Down London festival on our website. Wildlife observation can require patience – so LWT is pleased to be part of Slow Down London.
Poetry is a slow art, which immeasurably enriches our lives. Poet in the City is committed to promoting poetry to new audiences, and to showing how important poetry is in reflecting upon our shared humanity and upon the way we live now. Poetry operates on a sort of slow burn, infiltrating itself into our lives. But it is poetry that people often reach for at times of celebration, grief or transition. Like the slow movement it calls upon us to reassess our lives and our priorities.
